Christmas eating out specials

For those of us who won’t have the time to cook up a Christmas meal, Moneybags’ writer, Alina Hardcastle, rounds up the Christmas meal specials in Cape Town, Joburg and Durban that are available this festive season.

Winehouse at Ten Bompas (Randburg)

Spoil your loved ones with a five course meal along with Christmas crackers, mince pies, tea or coffee with dessert. Children will receive a small gift in addition to a simplified children’s menu.

Price: Adults pay R525 and children under the age of 12 years pay R250.

Moyo Melrose Arch (Melrose Arch)

Moyo Melrose is treating their guests with a Christmas day buffet feast. This includes a welcome drink, live entertainment, Christmas hat and crackers. Lunch will be served between 12:00 and 16:30.

Price: It’s R385 per adult; R195 for kids between four and 12 years; and free for kids three years and younger.

A la Bouffe (Linden)

A la Bouffe will be serving a set French-infused lunch on Christmas day. The highlights include: compressed free range lamb shoulder, smoked belly and cutlet, butternut squash, spinach, potato, blueberry sauce; and Valrhona dark chocolate and strawberry. The event starts at 11:30 and ends at 14:00.

Price: R500 per person

Parc Fermé (Sandton)

This year, Parc Fermé will be serving a set Christmas Day lunch menu. The menu includes an amuse bouche, starter, entrée, main, palate cleanser and dessert. Dishes include the butter curried mussel tartlet, salmon ravioli with camembert cheese, smoked gammon and roast turkey, and chocolate and egg nog mousse cake with vanilla ice cream.

Price: Enjoy the set lunch menu for R495 per adult and R120 for children under the age of 12 years.

Clico Restaurant  (Rosebank)

A special five-course festive tasting menu has been specially prepared by executive chef Peter van Schaik and will be on offer on Christmas Eve (December 24), Christmas Day lunch and dinner (December 25) and day of goodwill lunch (December 26).

Price: It’s R595 per adult (excluding wine pairing).

Cape Town

The Lookout Deck (Hout Bay)

The Lookout Deck will be offering a three-course lunch on Christmas day, the highlights include: an avocado and prawn Ritz; duck breast; and apple and berry crumble.

Price: R330 per adult; children between the ages of four and 12 pay R165. Service charges are included.

On the rocks (Bloubergstrand)

Tuck into On the Rocks’ three-course Christmas day lunch. Families can enjoy a three-course set menu consisting of honey-and-star-anise baked gammon, slow roasted lamb leg with red wine jus, caramelized baby onions and crush baby potatoes.

Price: R450 per person or half price for children under eight years old.

The Square Restaurant at the Vineyard Hotel  (Claremont)

Indulge in the Square’s Christmas Eve dinner buffet. The buffet highlights include grilled line fish with lemon butter sauce, sliced maple glazed kassler loin and Christmas baked Alaska with orange crème Anglaise.

Price: R465 per person

Trees Restaurant at Townhouse Hotel  (Cape Town City centre)

Treat the family to a Christmas day brunch or lunch at the Townhouse hotel. Brunch highlights include pork sausage skewers with mini pancakes; rosti potatoes with poached eggs and lemon hollandaise; turkey wraps; gammon-and-pineapple-filled cannelloni; slow-roasted spring chickens; and Christmas pud cups.

Christmas day lunch includes dishes like maple-and-juniper berry glazed gammon with cherries, pineapple and pan gravy can be expected.

Price: Brunch is R264 per person and lunch is R388 per person.

Shimmy Beach Club  (V&A Waterfront)

Enjoy Shimmy’s buffet feast this Christmas. Expect a variety of starters, mains and desserts. There will be a sushi selection, Asian tapas and dim sum. Mains include fire-roasted leg of Karoo lamb with thyme-infused jus, pistachio encrusted turkey breast with sweet roasted prune and pistachio centre.

Price: R895 per person. Children between the ages of four and 12 pay R175, and toddlers under the age of three eat for free.


 9th Avenue Bistro  (Morningside)
Serving fresh locally sourced seasonal cuisine, 9th Avenue Bistro will be offering a five-course menu this Christmas eve along with a welcome glass of Champagne, amuse bouche, appetisers, mains, dessert and eggnog.

Price: R495 per person.

Bellevue Café  (Kloof)
Starting from 1 November to Christmas Eve, Bellevue Café guests can enjoy a two-course meal for R195 or a three-course option for R225.

Moyo (uShaka)

Moyo uShaka is spoiling their guests with a Christmas day buffet feast. This includes a welcome drink, live entertainment, Christmas hat and crackers. Lunch will be served between 12:00 and 16:30.

The Big Easy Wine Bar & Grill (North Beach)

Enjoy all the excitement of Christmas Day at the Big Easy, with live music and a menu perfect for family sharing and celebration.

Price: R650 per person with a welcome drink on arrival; and R850 per person for food and wine pairing menu.
