Last minute Christmas lunch specials for 2014

Christmas is around the corner and preparations for the upcoming festive season have started. Don’t stress if you haven’t started preparing for the day, as Sean Binedell of Moneybags has sourced some Christmas restaurant options for you to enjoy.

Why make a mess in your own kitchen when you can go out and let someone else cook for you and your family? We have found some lovely Christmas lunches for you in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg that will leave you delightfully stuffed, and filled with some festive cheer

Cape Town

The mother city has some lovely places where you can enjoy Christmas lunch. Some of them are a little pricy, but what you get in return is a great meal and welcoming atmosphere.

  1. Winchester Mansion

Winchester Mansion is offering a traditional Christmas feast with great settings and views. The price includes a buffet. This is along with some snacks and welcome drink on arrival, and a live band to keep the festivities going.

This buffet is going to set you back by R525 per person. The  doors open from 12:30pm.

  1. Pure restaurant

Pure at Hout Bay Manor is a rustic family restaurant that offers culinary experiences that tantalise your taste buds, according to their website. It offers a three course set menu. on the 24th and 25th of December.

Again this is pricey at R550 per person.

  1. The Hilton

The Hilton is offering poolside views and lounge patio for you to enjoy their prepared buffet options with the whole family.

They will be having a Christmas Lunch Buffet from 12:30pm to3pm. This will be R355 per person. If you have any children under 12 years old, they can join the feast for 50% off.

Besides their buffet, they have a whole host of other fine-dining options for you to enjoy:

  • Christmas Eve Dinner: 6:30pm – 10pm
  • Christmas Day Dinner: 6:30pm – 10pm
  • Three courses – R285 per person
  • Four courses – R325 per person
  • Five courses – R375 per person

  1. Square Restaurant

The Square Restaurant is a glass roofed restaurant with tranquil green surrounds. The indoor trees make one feel in tune with nature and create an intimate atmosphere, which compliments the superb cuisine, claims its website.

Christmas day lunch is R460 per person, and you will receive a glass of champagne upon arrival. This offer consists of a three course meal and a Christmas cracker – just to bring back some fun to the meal.

If you want to rather fill up on good food the day before, then the Christmas Eve Dinner costs R430 per person, . You will have the same options as the Christmas day dinner.

  1. Park Inn

Here you can enjoy gourmet Christmas selections, which are available at the Park Inn restaurant in Newlands.

  1. Bon Hotel Shelley Point

Bon Hotel Shelley Point, one of the finest resorts on the West Coast, is just a 90 minute drive from Cape Town, explains their website.

The hotel is set on a private peninsula, surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches and clear, azure waters.

Here you can enjoy a Christmas Day lunch, and also have a sit down with Santa.

For R265 per person you can enjoy a three course meal.

Durban

  1. Harvey’s Restaurant

Harvey’s Christmas Eve dinner is a five course gourmet meal for R445 per person and R745 with wine pairing. Price includes snacks, a welcome drink and musical entertainment by a live band.

For Christmas day dinner they have a few options for you:

  •  Three courses with wine at R490 per person;
  • Three courses without wine at R290 per person;
  • Four courses with wine at R570 per person;
  • Four courses without wine at R340 per person;
  • Five courses with wine at R645 per person; and,
  • Five courses without wine at R385 per person.

The prices include live musical entertainment.

On Boxing Day (Firday, 26 December) they are having a  brunch buffet for R315 per person. Includes full English breakfast, a selection of sushi and salads, and a traditional carvery with turkey, gammon and lamb.

  1. Eat Local Balito

Here you can enjoy a five course buffet for R600 per person on Christmas Day. If you are booking for six people or more you will need to put down a 50% deposit.

You can enjoy a relaxed Christmas atmosphere at Billy the Bums  You can have a gourmet pub, three course meal for R159 per person, on Christmas Eve.

  1. Wodka Christmas Lunch special

The Christmas Lunch buffet includes crackers, hats and a variety of different starters, mains and desserts available from the buffet tables. Bookings are R270 per person, and R135 for children under the age of 12.

Johannesburg

  1. Bon Hotel Rivera on the Vaal

Here you can enjoy a sit down  Christmas with Santa. “Hats, fun and Christmas crackers” are on the agenda for the day.

There are two different options:

Matthews Restaurant is having a lunch for R320 per person.

And the Petit Vordet Riverboat is having lunch for R350 per person.

Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 15:00

  1. Carvers Restaurant & Bar

The cost of the Festive Buffet is R150 per person excluding Christmas hats and crackers. If you want to have all the extras then it will cost youR160 per person.

A 20% deposit of the food bill is required to confirm your reservation.

  1. Maximillien

At Maximillien you can have a five-course set menu for R495 per person, and  R247.50 for all children under 12 years of age.

  1. Parc Ferme

Parc Ferme is offering a set lunch menu at R420 per person, which includes an amuse bouche, starter, soup, entrée, main, sorbet and dessert.

Highlights are the pan-seared salmon with herb and nut crust; roast glazed gammon; stuffed turkey breast; and chocolate gateau with vanilla and honeycomb ice cream.

Eating out has some advantages such as not cleaning up dirty dishes afterwards, but it may be costly. Christmas is only one day out of the year, and far from January pay-day. Make sure you have budgeted for the day to make sure you can survive financially till the next pay check.
