Last minute New Year's Eve parties
The end of the year is almost upon us, and with all the planning that goes into the holiday season you may have overlooked your New Year’s Eve festivities. Moneybags has a few ideas of last-minute local events to celebrate the start of 2016.
New Year’s Eve Concert at Kirstenbosch
A festive staple in Cape Town, these outdoor concerts take place in the exquisite Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. This year, local talent Jeremy Loops and funk band Grassy Spark will be performing. Bring your own picnic and enjoy majestic views of Table Mountain and a night of dancing under the stars. Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Street Party
New Church Street in Cape Town’s CBD will once again be filled with music and celebration as the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice celebrate their annual New Year’s Street Party. This year’s theme is a Carnival Fiesta, and guests can expect top hip-hop and house DJ’s and plentiful food and champagne. New Year’s Eve at Nederburg with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
Nederburg Wine Farm is opening its gates to the public for an evening of wine, music and picnicking. The CTPO will be conducted by the esteemed Brandon Philips, and will include guest stars throughout the night. Wine will be available, but bring your own picnic and blankets. Tickets are still available at Computicket or the Artscape Theatre, and cost R179 for children and R300 for adults.
Electric Vines Music Festival at Wildekrans Wine Estate
This festival takes place in Bot Rivier from 30 December until 1 January 2016, and includes a main stage, an acoustic stage and a Mainstay Beach Bar. Expect some of South Africa’s top bands and DJ’s, including Desmond & the Tutus, Dean Fuel, Candice Heyns, Goldfish and Nomadic Orchestra. Camping facilities are available, and there are plenty of guesthouses nearby. Tickets start at R490 for a day pass. New Year’s Eve Paddle Cruise, Knysna
End the year with a boat ride to Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you will be entertained with live bands, DJ’s and a buffet dinner in the lagoon-side forest restaurant. The paddle cruiser will sail home at 12:30 am on 1 January 2016 after guests have been given a glass of bubbly. This year’s theme is ‘Denim and Diamonds’. Tickets cost R580 p/p. Jazz Brunch on the Lake, Knysna
For something a little different, Lakeside Lodge are hosting a New Year’s Day brunch on the lake, with a 4-piece live jazz band. Brunch will consist of five courses by renowned Executive Chef Kelly-Anne Pietersen. Tickets cost R680 and can be purchased here.
Revolution New Year’s Open Air Music Festival
The Revolution New Year’s event at Hornbill Lodge in Magaliesburg has developed a cult following over the years. The event starts at 9am on 31 December, and ends in the early evening of 1 January 2016. Guests can camp overnight or purchase a day pass. There will be two stages, tented chill areas, food stalls and a combination of both local and international electronic and psytrance DJ’s. Tickets start at R320. New Year’s Eve in the Sky at the Reef Hotel
The Reef Hotel in Marshalltown is hosting a glamorous event on their Elevate Rooftop, which boasts 360 degree views of the city. Live DJ’s will be playing a combination of house, RnB and hip hop. Tickets cost R250 and are available via Webtickets.
Smoking Dragon New Year’s Eve Festival
From 29t December 2015 until 1 January 2016, the Amphitheatre Backpackers comes alive with some of South Africa’s top bands, including Diamond Thug, BOO! and Zebra & Giraffe. Nestled amongst some of Africa’s most astounding mountain views, guests can expect a wide range of music and activities suitable for all members of the family. Ballito New Year’s Eve Street Party
The Ballito Street Party and Crush Night Club have put Ballito on the map for world-class New Year’s Eve celebrations.
