What do you do for a living?
I am the Founder of Digital Solutions Group, one of South Africa’s leading providers of On-Demand Customer Experiences and Digital Solutions.
We serve some of South Africa’s premier consumer-facing and corporate brands. I always look at where technology could enable business to be more efficient or gain a competitive advantage.
I do a lot of research on trends and innovation and engage with customers to understand their challenges and look at appropriate solutions.
For me, every project’s success is dependent on people, processes and technology and therefore my team and I look at comprehensive solutions that cover all critical success factors in this regard.
How long have you been in the profession?
I founded the Digital Solutions Group (DSG) in 1998 and have been consulting in the ICT industry for the past 24 years in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Africa.
What three things do people always need to remember when it comes to social media?
- Social media is just that – social – brands must remember to listen and to let themselves and others join conversations organically.
- Let your followers see your passion for what you do, not what you are trying to sell.
- Dip your toes in the water – pick one medium your company feels comfortable with so as not to become overwhelmed. Be patient as you find your voice.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is the sense of achievement that I am adding value to my family, friends, our employees, customers, partners and society as a whole.
Even though DSG stands for Digital Solutions Group, but we also believe it is about Doing Something Good.
We like to apply our digital know-how to create positive social impact. Over the years some of the most fulfilling work we have been involved in has been for good, rather than profit.
Where do you think the future of mobile in South Africa is going?
Customers have become increasingly dependent on mobile and therefore businesses need to make mobile part of the strategy and engage with customers through this powerful channel.
As smartphones and bandwidth prices decrease and we see a higher penetration of mobile data, businesses need to find innovative ways to position themselves to meet consumer’s demands – and to re-invent their businesses based on the evolution of mobile technology.
The opportunities are immense and we are seeing some very interesting models in mobile financial services , m-health , mobile education and m-government as some examples.
What does your business, Digital Solutions Group, do?
DSG is spilt into four key business areas including:
On-Demand CX: We offer cost-effective solutions and a completely integrated service proposition that combines mobile, applications; digital and interactive omni-channel management.
Development: DSG build market leading mobile, web and desktop applications that deliver’s value to clients
Lead Generation: Help clients to increase sales and create a seamless Customer Experience
Digital CX: Creating an intuitive, friendly and attractive environment for your customer to interact with your brand, from the moment of interest to a defined end-goal.
What is your role on the board of the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) of South Africa?
I serve on the advisory board of the MMA and assist with strategic direction and partnerships with mobile network operators.
I am part of the measurement committee which aims to uplift mobile media and effectively measure the reach and richness of the mobile as a media channel.
I am also part of the education committee which aim to educate the advertising and marketing industry on the value of mobile.
