The Unusuals Wine festival
Consider yourself to be a wine connoisseur? Then don’t pass by the opportunity to attend The Unusuals wine festival presented by Wine Menu. The event will be showcasing South Africa’s lesser known but “most exceptional uncommon” varietals at The Wanders Club in Illovo on 18 August from 18:00 onwards.
Organiser Corlien Morris from the Wine Menu says,: “This is a targeted wine experience that focuses on the flavours and nuances of varietals that are not familiar to South Africans and usually have a small production.”
She adds that people who attend the festival are generally passionate and knowledgeable about wine and are open to broadening their knowledge.
Expect nothing less than top quality wines as the organisers have handpicked the wine producers.
So, what’s on the menu? The wine list includes: Delheim Gewurztraminer; Lothian Vineyards Riesling; Lismore Viognier; Steenberg Semillon; The Foundry Grenache Blanc; Rustenberg Roussanne; Thelema Verdelho; B Vintners de Alexandria; Peter Bayly Tinta Barocca; Saronsberg Grenache Noir; Kloovenberg Carignan; Kaapzicht Skuinsberg Cinsaut; Paul Wallace Black Dog Malbec; The Drift Gift Horse Barbera and David & Nadia Sadie Elpidios.
There will also be some international wines on the night including: Alabastro white, Sogrape Reserva, Herdade Do Peso Trinca Bolotas and Herdade Do Rocim Alentejo Vinho Tinto Alicante Bouschet from Portugal as well as Chateau Los Boldos Carmenere from Chile.
Wines will be on sale on the night at less than their regular retail prices, which includes some that are no longer available in the general marketplace.
A limited amount of tickets are available and cost R200 per person, available at Webtickets and Wine Menu at Blu Bird Centre. The ticket price includes an assortment of canapés that will be served throughout the evening, each chosen to complement the styles of wine being sampled.
If tickets are still available, they will be sold at the door on the night for R220 per person.
